About Me

I'm Dawn Jagannath, a Reading Specialist with more than 20 years of experience helping children become confident, capable readers.

Throughout my career as a classroom teacher, special educator, and reading specialist, I've worked with students who struggled despite receiving well-intentioned instruction. Those experiences led me to a simple but powerful realization: when reading instruction truly makes sense, everything changes. That belief sparked my passion for Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction (EBLI), a speech-to-print approach that helps students understand the logic of written English rather than relying on memorization or guessing. Watching that moment of clarity, the point where reading finally "clicks", is what continues to inspire my work every day.

In addition to my work in public education, I provide individualized literacy intervention designed to build lasting foundations in reading, writing, and spelling. My goal isn't simply to help students improve their reading scores. It's to help them become confident, independent learners who believe they are capable.

My passion for understanding how children learn has led me beyond literacy instruction alone. I am currently pursuing an Ed.D. in the Science of Learning, where I study the cognitive science behind attention, memory, learning, and reading development. At the same time, I became a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN), driven by a growing interest in how sleep, nutrition, movement, and stress influence the brain's ability to learn.

While literacy and wellness may seem like separate fields, I've come to see them as deeply connected. Both are rooted in understanding the brain. Whether I'm exploring the science of reading, cognitive psychology, or brain health, my goal is the same: to translate research into practical strategies that help children, educators, and families thrive.

Creativity has always been an important part of who I am, and I believe curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning go hand in hand. I enjoy finding meaningful ways to make complex ideas understandable and helping others discover the confidence that comes from truly understanding how we learn.

At home, I'm married to Sunil, a school administrator, and together we're raising two wonderful children. Education is woven into our everyday conversations, and I feel incredibly fortunate that my work and my personal life are both centered around helping people learn and grow.

At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: reading is a right, and every child deserves the opportunity to become a confident reader.
